Certification: At the end of the course students will be given a unique code/certificate, which you will need if you want to undertake your Short Range Certificate Exam which is a short written/practical exam to qualify you with the Short Range Certificate. After the successful completion of this exam you will be issued with the "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Certificate of Competence and Authority to Operate". There is an exam fee payable directly to the RYA on the day of your exam, this fee is in addition to the online course fee. The SRC Exam Certificate fee is £60. This exam can be taken with RYA Training Centre UK Specialist Shorebased Training, based in Poole, Dorset. However the exam can be taken at any RYA Training Centre offering the SRC course if you don't live near Poole. Please email UKSST for exam dates.
Course Overview: The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio. This includes both fixed and hand held equipment using International channels. On the course you will gain knowledge of GMDSS systems and be taught the operation of modern DSC VHF radios.
